How Green Is Your Mobile Phone Company?

In the crowded field of North American mobile phone companies, AT&T Wireless leads its competitors in efforts to reduce its environmental impact, according to a recent study by A.B.I. Research, a technology market research firm.

Sprint Nextel ranks a close second, while Verizon placed a distant third.

“We found that AT&T has the most practical approach to measuring the energy use of its network,” said Aditya Kaul, an A.B.I. senior analyst. “The company is also better than the others in setting specific targets with specific plans on how they will reduce their energy consumption.”
